Over the last two years or so we have had an influx of inquiries for Sikh and Sikh interfaith marriages – really allowing us to fully spread out within the Indian community and remain as diverse as possible. I had found that for most of the Washington DC gurdwaras (Guru Gobind Singh Foundation) that sitting and listening to their messages those unfamiliar would equally find this to be one of the softest, most humble, kind-hearted of cultures within a religion one might find, most are well-spoken and have the most promising of messages that they convey to their members. I find that with each one that attends I am so touched by their words often enough I find myself in goosebumps as their words resonate right through me.
In the case of Lali’s wedding ceremony, I felt like I was part of the family having just photographed their engagement session and spending dinner with her and Amit that went on for hours – her Mehendi was very intimate consisting of her immediate family and probably to date a favorite of ours in terms of time well spent. For us, the reason we do what we do is that we ourselves are big family people. Part of what drove our career in many ways was the documenting of our own family as we experienced each other's cultures, and independent families and grew into our own collective one. Often enough with the hustle and bustle of wedding schedules, it is not often that we are able to get much one-on-one time with our couple's parents, siblings, or extended members of their family as everyone is on the run. In this case, it was great to sit and eat with them, Lali’s mom is very similar to my own, and sitting with her and listening to her just warmed my heart. She (and of course her husband too!) has raised 3 very tender-hearted close children – as a parent myself we aspire to achieve what they have in their children, they have truly been blessed.
Enough of all my sappiness as I move into what everyone came here for imagery with a little bit of puppy love at the end!
Terrace side just short of a tiara, this little princess certainly took the stage! At this beautiful Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa, the weather kept us all nail-biting and on our toes, no doubt but this team in conjunction with the Dream Shaadi team nailed its execution of this event to a “T” every step along the way! Moving things around from day to day and ensuring the wedding guests always knew what was next each step along the way left each one of them with an experience to remember and smiles on their faces throughout their stay.
The mood was somber and the waters so calm it was in the midst of dreamy that these two had their first look and their bridal party rocked portrait time with us – I have to say that for the size of this bridal party and their ability to party they were the most committed crew in listening and being a true part of Lali and Amit’s wedding experience adding to it in every way.
The heavens could not have shown down any more than it did with its approval for these two – the bluest of skies and the cleanest of cloud-filled in by the largest of crowds.
On a typical Thursday or Friday evening this time of year, we would be sitting in attendance documenting a loud and crazy Sangeet as our clients join their family and friends for the first time in this celebration of song and dance…
But since that is not the case given the world we live in at the moment we can dream and reminisce as we catch up on our latest blog posts from our most recent events. For Lali and Amit their wedding celebration started off with their Sangeet in the Washington DC area at the Hilton Tysons McLean, which has become a known hot spot in the area for South Asian events given its fluidness in understanding the market and ability to provide an outdoor indoor cocktail space with a neutral door to accommodate not only a trendy but also traditional affair.
It makes me think how torturous this time must be for all our amazing clients who are so social and love to party – it leads us to believe that all this quarantining is going to lead to a seriously amazing fall season as these parties give us all a little more to celebrate about!
In the midst of in all when most plan destination weddings it is an attempt to be surrounded by nothing but family and friends for days as you celebrate leading up to marital bliss, as a married couple leaving your family and friends shortly after a post-wedding brunch. But in the middle of it all, it can’t hurt to step away and immerse yourselves in one another by getting away for a little one-on-one time during a photo and film shoot together on the beach, this is exactly what Lali and Amit did – utilizing our time with them during this trip to its full potential absorbing everyone moment of the dry skies.
Might I add in that preceding parties seemed to be the new thing for destination weddings as friends and families all arrive at different times and need to get acquainted before the kick-off of the official celebration??? Yeppers! Kind of like getting that stretch in before the big game in the case of Lali and Amit’s events as more than a double header, it was a triple, and everyone was up to the task except the weather …. the rain was out there singing a song “should I stay or should I go…” …. and boy did it have everyone wondering what the plan should be, but thankfully all hands we on deck and as everyone conversed, kept up with the weather minute by minute we were all steered into the clear as Sumeet Bagai with the Dream Shaadi wedding planning team made the executive decision to change Lali and Amit’s wedding date to another in lieu of the weather to try to give Lali and Amit the best chance he could at achieving their dream wedding outdoors…
